In brief

A gharana upbringing, a cinema career

Bhagirath Bhatt was born in Jamnagar in 1991 and began learning the sitar at six. His father has sung and played tabla in a Ram Katha ensemble for over forty-five years; the instrument was in the room before there was a decision to play it.

He took a Gold Medal in sitar performance at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, and studied with four teachers across three lineages - among them the Jafferkhani baaj and the Etawah gharana.

Since 2010 that training has gone into film and series scores, ghazal and devotional records, and concert stages, alongside composers and singers whose names do the boasting so the copy does not have to.
